Too Deep's Album Is Out Today, And It's A MONSTER! Go Get It!

Do yourself a favor and drop whatever it is you're doing (once you get finished reading this, of course) and go to http://www.thehippiehoodlum.com/  right now, and buy Too Deep's new album! I listened to it straight through last night and I've been checking it out again all morning, and it's dope! The production is tight, all the beats are bangers, and the kid's lyrics are on some next level, 12th dimensional isht.
I've known Too Deep for a minute now, he's a good friend, but I kinda wish I didn't know him because then I could tell you that "The Hippie Hoodlum" is my new favorite album without having to feel like I'm jockin one of my boys, but... Anyway, the album is pure molten lava. Go get it and support true art, and real NYC hip hop, you will not be disappointed.
Here's a tasty morsel, turn it up!

Epicly Later'd : Josh Kalis Episode 7

This is the final episode of one of the best series O'Dell has put out thus far. Josh Kalis is legit, a street skating purist. No image, gimmick, or hype, the dude just goes out and consistently destroys. I love that.

SUPER MOON! COMIN TO YA LIVE IN SUPER HD, MARCH 19th 2011!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On 3/19/2011 the moon will 221,567 miles away, the closest its been to Earth in 19 years. Some scientists believe it will cause major chaos all over the globe and blame it for the Japanese earthquakes, others say no way. I don't know, check this stuff out and decide for yourself.

All of these came out before the March 11 quake

http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20110310/sc_space/willmarch19supermoontriggernaturaldisasters
This ones crazy it even predicts the latest financial disaster.
http://www.psychiccosmos.com/blog/index.php/astrology/extreme-super-moon-march-19-could-cause-earthquakes-and-extreme-weather-patterns/
I could list a bunch more, there are a lot, and fairly, there are just as many opposite opinions as well. but there seems to be a pattern here, thats all I'm saying. How many coincidences have to occur before the situation is taken seriously? As technology develops it enables us to challenge beliefs that were once rock solid, and things are definitely pointing toward the moon having much more of an impact on what happens on earth than anyone ever imagined.
Anyway, this lunar cycle is going to last until the 21st, with the peak the 19th, so don't be shocked in something else were to occur. Obviously I hope that we've seen the worst but those aftershocks are still happening  and there was just a 4.3-4.7 in Ottawa minutes ago. I dunno.
All we can do is live our lives but we can't become complacent, things are obviously crazy right now, but this is nothing new. The earth was formed this way. We admire the majesty of mountain ranges but kind of ignore the violence that created them. Science suggests his planet may have gone through several cataclysmic events, that eradicated practically everything on the planet. We are all just along for the ride. The planet does not care about what our plans are, it doesn't cooperate with us. Remembering that, and really grasping the fact that something like a giant meteor smashing into the planet can, and has happened, many times. Dinosaurs?
Anyway, somehow keeping the fact that life is so fragile in the forefront of my mind (it's hard), helps me to cherish it that much more. We're just hoping we'll see the next hour, right? Imagine if somehow we could all live like that, like it really is, like everything could end in a flash. How grateful would we be? How much more pure would or motives be? Our priorities. what would relationships look like? Man...theres a goal.

I'm Afraid Of Americans

"NPR, National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, all those kind of frivolous things that government shouldn't be in the business of funding with tax dollars -- those should all be on the chopping block as we talk about the $14-trillion debt that we're going to hand to our kids and our grandkids," Palin told right-wing host Sean Hannity. "Yes, those are the type of things that for more than one reason need to be cut."

Mark my words, if this broad somehow becomes President, I am out, goodbye Crazyland, hello ex-patriot status.

Epicly Later'd : Josh Kalis Episode 6

This episode delves a bit deeper into the Stevie Williams/Josh Kalis, LOVE Park, late 90's Philly scene, which goes down as one of the most influential periods in skateboarding history. Another great ep.

The Answer

Once again a cacophony of questioning resounds but receives no answers. Profound questions, deeply woven into the DNA of all of us. Fair questions, selfless, and pure. Although many try, these questions remain unanswerable, for now. The fact that they remain though, persistent and stubborn, refusing to be silenced, assures us that there is an answer; and demands that we never stop investigating.

I've had this Trentemoller remix of the Unkle song in my head all day. I can't get enough of it; it's hauntingly beautiful. If you like it, you can download it. Below that are the two videos for the original track. They too are brilliant and maybe shed some light down the path to finding the answer.

50 Cent's Oscar Bid

The list of the great actors of our time includes names like Brando, De Niro, Pachino, Depp, and DiCaprio. Now we can add Cent to that illustrious group. Remember a few months back when pictures like this one first surfaced showing an emaciated Curtis Jackson (50-Cent)?

We were told he lost the weight to play a cancer stricken football player. Wow, what devotion to a role! This movie must be a cinematic masterpiece, for this guy to go to such great lengths! Man, 50 was on his serious Robert De Niro, ultra-method, preparation game. I mean, surely he wouldn't have put himself such torture for anything less than an Oscar caliber role, right? 50 actually co-wrote the screenplay and invested a ton of his fortune into the films production. Well, today the trailer for "Thing's Fall Apart" was released; and umm....

From stealing the title of a classic work of literature, to hiring the B-movie announcer guy, to the fact that 50's 35yrs. old playing a college kid, to that ridiculous dreadlock wig that looks like it's from a cheap Halloween costume, to the announcer guy stating that this is "the most critically acclaimed role of his career" without any quotes from critics, to the fact that there's no release date, everything about this film screams Oscar to me.
How come these guys don't know when enough's enough? Just take your money and go somewhere and enjoy it. What a lame.

Wait, now I'm confused.

I Wish This Guy Was The Official Earthquake Warning/Alert Dude.

I've been watching videos of the horror in Japan all day. I've done some deep soul searching as well as mourned the loss of life. So in no way do I mean to make light of the situation over there, it has moved me greatly, but I have to take it down a notch for my own sanity, so I'm taking it WAY down with this one.

Hey, lighten up! I needed that. The world can be a really scary place if you haven't noticed. The National Weather Service needs to hire this guy, right away. I'm not kidding; he's way better than anyone else that's out there. Besides, I know you laughed too.

Tsunami 101 & More Insane Footage From Japan

Here's a quick Nat Geo article explaining how Tsunamis form.

And more insane footage from Japan

Radiation Could Have Already Escaped Nuclear Plant

The Kyodo News is reporting this as I type. If they're saying "could" that most likely means "did". This is getting uglier by the moment. Here's the link to the article http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2011/03/76956.html

The Japanese Disaster Keeps Unfolding

I have so many thoughts rushing through my head associated with last nights earthquake and ensuing Tsunami in Japan. The devastation is incredible! Now there are fears that nuclear reactors may have been damaged and could malfunction! What is shown in the video below from Russia Today is unlike anything I have ever seen; I am truly astonished. What a savage planet this is.

Epicly Later'd : Josh Kalis Episode 5

This is the best episode in an already epic Josh Kalis installment. We've already had all the Kalis exploits, mixed with stories about Sheffey, Jamie Thomas, and Rob Dyrdek; but here's the best story yet, the ongoing saga of Lennie Kirk. Man, I forgot about this kid but his "Time Code" part is burnt into my cerebellum; these days I need a lil remindin from time to time. Kirk's part in the video was amazing when it first came out, and it still holds up. The kid was an absolute animal. That grind on the dumpster is just a quick flash in the video, but dude was blind for a few hours after that head tap. The guy goes hardcore no matter what he's doing; skating, preaching, sticking people up, it doesn't matter. You have to respect that. Obviously he needs some help focusing his passion, but he's got it shooting out of every pore. The world is desperately lacking those kind of people right now. Anyway, just watch it for yourself.

And here's Lennie's part in "Time Code". I have to agree with Jamie Thomas; this is one of my all time favorite parts. The gospel music, the slams, mixed with real footage of him getting ready to preach, in cornrows no less! It's all crazy, but it's the rawness, and the dude's talent that make this one a classic.

You know what...the whole "Time Code" video is so dope, here's the whole thing. The quality sucks but whatever. If you haven't watched it, this is a definite piece of skateboarding history. I remember watching it when it first came out and thinking how revolutionary it was. Nothing else at the time looked quite like this did. It was put together like a piece of art, and that left an impression on me. Its amazing to see how influential it has been, and how whack it looks now. Man, I'm getting old. Anyway, please enjoy.

Relearn Everything!

Why are so many people fearful of change? Its really strange if you think about it. We live in a universe that consists of nothing but change. We humans have not stopped morphing and changing for a single second, and every time I look in the mirror, I look 10 minutes older. Anyway, change really is THE only constant in this life. Still, some of us are deathly afraid of it. Our egos seem to be genetically programmed to only be concerned with the 70-90 years that we happen to inhabit. We can look at history and the massive, sweeping movements that have taken place; we can also project into the future based on the daily advancements made in the technology, and imagine a world completely unlike ours, but somehow we want as little change as possible to take place during our individual time here on earth. That's an old survival mechanism left over from the ole' hunter gatherer era, but I'll save that one for another day because...I'm really interested in the idea of people desperately clinging to the past. So many people look back at some other time, whether it be the ten years or so when they were in the prime of their lives, or they connect with a time that they've only read about, and they've created these elaborate fantasies about how innocent it was back then, and how everything was better. We're watching a new pseudo political party make a whole lot of noise based on that premise. "We need to get back to what our fore fathers intended this country to be!", they scream. That sounds nice, and compelling, and definitely pulls on the heart strings; but you know what? IT ISN'T 1776 ANYMORE! I don't understand you people! What is your obsession with an era in time that has long since passed? Have you looked around lately? Is that all you can come up with? The world resembles a Hieronymus Bosch painting and all you've got is, "let's go back to the mid 18th century, or the 1950's when everything was just grand"? STOP IT! Now before you write me off, I do believe in tradition, and ancient principles. There's no questioning that. What I don't believe in is denying the fact that we are living in the Twilight Zone at the moment, and we have to deal with it on it's terms. We don't want to accept the fact that no ones in control I guess. Attempting to turn the clock back at this point is a ridiculous waste of time. It's like taking birth control when you're 7 1/2 months pregnant. I got news for ya honey, the babies coming, so ya better get the nursery ready. In 1776 there was no running water or electricity. People didn't normally live past their 40's. You might as well go back to 1500BC and try to apply the principles that were in place back then to our present predicament. Why not? It had to have been more pure then, right?
It's fascinating that we want, even expect, huge changes to take place in certain areas of our lives, but not others. For instance, we all get excited when the latest gadget is unleashed, and we expect science, medicine, and things like the automotive industry to make steady strides towards making us more informed, connected, healthier, and safer; but when it starts getting personal, we get all upset about our loss of rights and privacy. Then we complain about it on Facebook! We're all are on the same wild ride that just continues to accelerate and gain momentum, no one has a clue what the hell is going on, and the past doesn't hold this magical answer. We deal with issues everyday that would send Thomas Jefferson drooling, to the psych ward. Does Sarah Palin not grasp the fact that our founding Fathers would be completely creeped out and appalled by her?
Can we stop with all the nostalgia and just allow human evolution to do what it's going to do please? We've been fighting it for millenniums and all that has done for us is slow down the inevitable. You're standing in the way of progress.
I love the idea of America, I love the Constitution, and what we've always publicly stood for; but I'm no fool. My entire life I have lived in a world that couldn't have been in a George Washington mushroom trip. Can't these people who someone elects to represent us, understand that there is no such thing as turning back the hands of time? As they commiserate on their iPhones and Twitter pages about the loss of American liberties, can't they see that those very actions are part of the reason why we're going full speed ahead into a place that none of us has ever been, and we'll only know how to deal with it when we get there? We need to relearn everything. Start at the very bottom, the foundation, and slowly reassess it all. Of course we hold on to immovable truths, they're immovable, but we need to become a new nation, a true democracy, if we are going to continue as the United States of America. I know, your ego won't allow you to envision a world without US influence, but take a look at Rome, who's system of government ours is based, how much influence are they offering the world right now?
I say this all the time, but I'll say it again, I don't even pretend for a moment that I have the answers. I believe it's my job to ask the questions. I have come to grips with the fact that I am truly insignificant on my own. I can influence a life here and there, but as an individual, life will continue undeterred if I die today, that's just fact. Sure, people would cry, and mourn for a bit, but it happens to millions of people every single day. We're really no big deal. But...if we can start asking questions, and reexamine those things we learned as children, those things that were told to us at an early age, by people we trusted; if we can except that we were immature, and impressionable then, and we grabbed a hold of these powerful theories, and ideas when we really didn't know any better. Maybe a new way of thinking can eventually begin to germinate. Now we are in the middle of life, and it's a trip, and we're just trying to make the best decisions that propel us forward. I believe it's vital that we all stop and just rethink it all. Like a child, you've been told all your life that this particular religious doctrine, or political system, or style of music, or whatever, is the one, the answer, and all the rest are either false or inferior? Do you really know what you believe? Have you truly examined all the other various paths or methods that don't look like yours. If you haven't, you can't possible KNOW, you can only think, or assume, or guess. I have found that there is a real confidence in intentionally relearning all you think you know, I admit I know nothing but am willing to learn everything, thus creating, a new, improved, more mature, and experienced version of me. In emptying all of the rhetoric, and opinion that was delivered as fact, and relearning everything, I am becoming the real Jason. We all have a personal responsibility to evolve as people. It's so easy to just be who you're "supposed" to be, to wear the label your given by your particular society, but one of the keys of life is to be constantly changing and shifting. Ever adapting to our world which refuses to slow down for your outdated philosophies.
Are you satisfied with what you know? Does what you've been taught answer those questions you've been conditioned to bury deep within? Are you taking on new challenges, learning new things, experiencing fresh and interesting things? I think in this modern era, many people are beginning to rely on technology to do all of the evolving, and kind of resting in this stagnant place personally. That is a trap. It's so sad to encounter a grown adult who has stopped learning and exploring life. They are beyond boring, they bring nothing new to the table, the offer no inspiration, no relevance. There it is! The word of the day! If I can sum this whole meandering rant up, it would all be in that one word...Relevance. That's what's missing. People who have the ability to steer the ship, so to speak, for the next who knows how many years, are attempting, to reintroduce a horse and buggy mindset into a culture that can't believe we don't have flying cars yet. Stop it. No ones asking you to let go of your traditions, or beliefs. We're just asking that you let those of us who aren't afraid to admit that we don't know shit, the space to try to figure it out. Is the future scary? Yeah kinda, but the futures always been scary. Then it becomes the norm, and eventaully, the past. Accept it. This is but a brief, fleeting, moment in time, no big deal. Thanks.

We All Know Charlie Sheen But Who Is Carlos Irwin Estevez?

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

What exactly is our bizarre relationship/obsession with celebrity disaster scenes? It's such a fascinating flaw to observe. I mean, I guess "Two And A Half Men" was a really popular show (I never saw it), but I don't recall hearing anybody talking about Charlie Sheen a month ago. Sure, he's been a periodically steady (if that makes any sense) fixture in the dirt rags for decades; but his outbursts had become cliche and kind of like background noise. Until, he decided to kick it up a notch and start this blitzkrieg of manic/creepy/hilarious/sad/genius/suspect, performance/rant interviews. The dude even took it to Twitter and since March 1st has 1,375,122 followers! Never before has insanity mixed with drug and sexual addiction completely skyrocketed a career into the stratosphere like this. He's got to have a really good manager and publicist because they just keep rolling with it, booking more appearances. He's been literally everywhere for the past week. The guys completely unraveling before our eyes and he just keeps getting bigger. Why, besides the undeniable comedic element, is this guy's spiral so enthralling? I mean think about it, I could go down to the Tenderloin District here in San Francisco right now and for $20 get a crack head to start spitting out some one liners that would defy all standards of normalcy and make Charlie Sheen's delusional ramblings suddenly seem rather boring and dull. The thing is, nobody would care. I walk past Charlie Sheens everyday, except they're usually shaking a coffee cup at me, and asking for change. I'm sure nobody's following them around, hanging on their every word, waiting for that next catch phrase, or crazy punch line. When it's a celebrity though, when it's the dude that was in Platoon, and Wall Street, and Major League, we can't get enough. It's like this is supposed to happen. We've been raised watching celebrities loose their minds; and now it's as if this is just the natural progression of celebrity. We've been conditioned to expect this type of behavior.
Why do we even know who Carlos Irwin Estevez is anyway? That's Charlie's real name. That's who he was before he got hugely famous for being good at pretending to be other people and getting paid ridiculous amounts of money to do it. Think about that. Our culture has chosen ACTORS, professional make believers, to place on the highest pedestal! That's crazy to me. We feed these peoples ego's to a point that no human mind can normally operate, and then we revel in their descent into madness and then obscurity. We don't even know who this man really is. We're a vicious bunch.
So here we have this rich, drug addict, living with his two baby boys, and two porn stars, showing ALL the signs of extreme cocaine educed psychosis, and for the moment anyway, and that's all it will be, he is the most popular man in America. You know what though, it makes sense. Right now, in a sense, Charlie Seen is America and maybe we're all just a little jealous.
